Rawrshak

An NFT platform that leverages ArDrive for cross-game interoperable assets that plug into the metaverse

Rawrshak Logo

Rawrshak is attempting to revolutionize the gaming industry by making in-game NFTs interoperable and providing new tools for game developers in the upcoming metaverse.

Video games are generally a place of silos. Each game operates within its own closed system and interaction between different games is limited. Rawrshak intends to break down these silos allowing gamers to "take your loot wherever you go."

In-game loot includes a wide range of assets like costumes, achievements, trophies, apparel, weapons and more. The majority of these assets reside only in their original game and do not actually belong to the player, nor do they have utility outside of their original game world.

Similarly, developers of games often get locked into platforms where most of the value of their work goes to the platform and not the creators.

Christian Sumido created Rawrshak to resolve both of these issues. He hopes to give gamers and developers the opportunity to take part in the open metaverse. For gamers this creates the opportunity to take their assets from one world to the next. For developers, this enables them to profit more off of their creations as they expand into new worlds.

Our Interview

We sat down with Christian Sumido to talk in depth about Rawrshak, the open metaverse, and how he is leveraging ArDrive to make this happen.

What is the Rawrshak project?

Rawrshak is a gaming focused NFT platform that empowers creators to deploy cross-game interoperable assets …. and to easily plug into the metaverse.

The main goal for the project is to empower gamers to take assets (all of their hard-won loot) across the open metaverse. The idea is to create a common framework that increases scalability for game developers when deploying any type of in-game asset as NFTs. This enables a cooperative ecosystem of games and allows more gaming genres to adopt blockchain technology.

How does your project help solve the high-barrier of entry for game developers entering into the blockchain space?

Traditional game developers have a hard time adopting new technology into their games. Blockchain technology is no different. At this point, there are very few tools and libraries that easily allow game developers to hook their game engines into blockchain technology.

For the Play-to-Earn model, a game developer needs to create and maintain complex game economics specifically for their game. However, not all types of games are suited to this model. Single-player games, story-based games, and simulator games, for example, don’t have much replay-ability and can’t adapt.

Additionally, it is hard enough to hire game developers, let alone ones with blockchain experience.

Our project provides all the necessary tools, libraries, and frameworks as well as an alternative blockchain model that makes blockchain adoption in games so much easier.

What are your concerns and hopes with how the Web3 gaming space could develop?

For gamers, the biggest concern is that all of their assets will be locked behind a closed wall much like they are now in the current gaming world. They are tired of having to drop all of the stuff they have collected over the years because they’re continuously moving on to new games. The promise of being able to take all of the interesting assets that they’ve collected - they have spent a lot of time collecting - alone is extremely attractive.

Additionally, game developers aren’t exactly treated as well as other types of developers. Game developer studios have started hiring less full-time game developers, and instead opt for contractors. Though they are in high demand, they are just not treated well. With the growth of the open metaverse, independent game developers have more opportunity to profit from their own creations.

The business model for games is also changing with the launch of game streaming platforms. Like the Netflix model, platforms will be acquiring content in order to bolster their content library. Because these platforms will have ready gamers, platforms will hold majority of the power and deals will be less favorable. With the advent of the open metaverse, developers can have more control over their creations and contribute to a free global gaming economy. I'm excited to be part of developing the open metaverse into a better space for players and developers.

How do you use Arweave and ArDrive to deploy files?

We require assets to be permanent; there cannot be any rug pulls. It is our goal to make the asset as permanent as can be so that is why we decided to work with Arweave because the storage is actually permanent.

All the assets on Rarwshak will be on Arweave along with the metadata.

We decided to go with ArDrive because it has an amazing UI and intuitive interface that easily allows game developers and content creators to just upload the asset and get the necessary information and transaction ids then link it to our NFT launcher. Everything just works lovely.

ArDrive has such a good UI that further down the line maybe we fully integrate with ArDrive’s file system (ARFS) that we can directly upload assets to ArDrive. Right now we are still developing the front end of the project.
